emergency dental care

After the fires destroyed Moria camp in September 2020, residents were relocated to the emergency camp of Mavrovouni on Lesvos. In Moria camp, access to dental care was limited and waiting times were long. When the emergency camp in Mavrovouni was first established, dental care was initially not available, leaving many people with untreated toothaches, infections, and other oral health problems.

To respond to these needs, CMA started providing dental care and gradually started to set up a dental clinic inside the camp in October 2020. The clinic provides free dental treatment to residents and is staffed by international volunteer dentists supported by CMA’s team of interpreters and medical staff.

Still operating today, the current program focuses on emergency and preventative dental care, helping treat severe infections, relieve pain, and stabilize oral health conditions that might otherwise worsen without treatment. The dental clinic remains an ongoing service as the need for accessible dental care in the camp continues.
