Previous programs

Crisis Management Association was founded in Greece and began its work on the island of Lesvos, where it implemented several healthcare initiatives in response to locally identified needs. Developed following needs assessments and context analyses, these projects aimed to strengthen access to healthcare and support the wider health response at the time. While CMA’s current work focuses on providing dental care within Lesvos’ Mavrovouni refugee camp and operating a pharmacy initiative across Greece, the projects below highlight earlier initiatives carried out on Lesvos, where the organization was first established. CMA continues to assess needs in different contexts and locations, adapting its work to where its expertise can best contribute to strengthening healthcare systems.

Emergency Response

After fires destroyed Moria camp on Lesvos in September 2020, approximately 15,000 people were relocated to an emergency camp now known as Mavrovouni camp. CMA supported the emergency response to ensure access to healthcare for camp residents.

Emergency dental care

After the fires that destroyed the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos, access to dental care for camp residents was extremely limited. CMA began by providing emergency dental treatments, which later developed into CMA’s own dental clinic—still operating today.

Chronic care & mental health

CMA supported Mavrovouni camp residents living with chronic and mental health conditions through chronic and psychiatric care, providing monitoring, follow-up consultations, treatment stabilization, and referrals in close coordination with other healthcare providers.

protection & vulnerability

CMA collaborated with several partners to identify people that were medically vulnerable and supported with the implementation of the Vulnerability Committee in Mavrovouni camp. CMA participated in this committee, by providing a specialized doctor to assess medically vulnerable cases for transfer and alternative accommodation.

central triage

CMA implemented a Central Triage service in Mavrovouni camp, assessing patients’ medical needs and coordinating referrals to appropriate healthcare providers in collaboration with various partners.

central pharmacy

CMA established a Central Pharmacy in Mavrovouni camp, collaborating with healthcare providers to coordinate the dispense of medication, reduce duplication in prescriptions, and improve oversight of available medicines.
