emergency response

Following the fires that destroyed the Moria camp on Lesvos in September 2020, an emergency camp was rapidly established in Mavrovouni to host thousands of displaced residents. During the first weeks, there was an urgent need to organize healthcare services.

CMA supported the initial emergency response in collaboration with the Greek National Public Health Organization (EODY). CMA helped carrying out COVID-19 testing for residents entering the camp by setting up testing stations staffed with nurses, assistants, and interpreters. Within the first two weeks, approximately 9,300 rapid tests were conducted together with EODY.

During the period of September 2020 - December 2020, CMA collaborated with EODY, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) that were sent to support by donating medical supplies and assisting with logistics, interpreters, and patient flow through triage. These early efforts helped ensure that access to medical care could begin quickly while a more structured healthcare system was gradually established in the camp.
