giving "sleeping stock" medication a second life

Access to essential medicines remains a critical challenge for many healthcare providers, while unused and non-moving pharmaceutical stock often risks goes to waste. Through our collaboration with GIVMED, CMA is working thelping address both challenges at once.

GIVMED is a Greece-based initiative that redistributes safe, unused medicines through a network of partner organizations. Every two months, the platform opens for donations, enabling pharmacies and healthcare organizations to share medicines from their “sleeping stock” and redirect them to healthcare providers across the country.

This model not only reduces pharmaceutical waste but also strengthens access to treatment for vulnerable populations.

As part of this initiative, CMA regularly contributes part of its pharmacy stock, helping extend access to essential medicines beyond our own programs. Through GIVMED, these medicines support several healthcare initiatives across Greece, such as: a nursing home in Athens, the Ippokratis Program in Drama, social pharmacies in Agrinio and Markopoulo, and the refugee detention centre in Korinthos.

This partnership shows how stronger coordination across organizations can maximize existing resources, reduce pharmaceutical waste, and improve access to care where it is needed most.

We are proud to be part of this network and to work alongside organizations across Greece to support more efficient, equitable access to healthcare.
