Supporting Women’s Oral Health in Mavrovouni Camp

Today, our female dental team visited the women’s community center run by Eurorelief in Mavrovouni refugee camp on Lesvos. Together with the women there, we held a practical dental hygiene session, sharing tips on caring for oral health in everyday life.

From correct brushing techniques to simple daily habits that help prevent dental problems, the session focused on making dental care accessible and manageable, even in challenging living conditions. Each woman who felt comfortable received an individual dental check-up, and we arranged follow-up appointments at our clinic for anyone needing further treatment.

In total, twelve women joined the session – five Farsi-speaking and seven Arabic-speaking. For many, it was not only a chance to learn about their own dental health but also to ask questions about supporting their children’s oral hygiene. Conversations ranged from how often to brush children’s teeth to what foods can damage them most.

Access to clear, reliable information is essential for everyone to make informed decisions about their health. But in humanitarian settings, opportunities for preventive sessions like these are often limited. By holding these sessions in a safe, women-focused space, we aim to create an environment where women feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns.

We are grateful to Eurorelief for welcoming us into their center, and to all the women who joined us today for their openness, curiosity, and trust.
